Services Roles

Volunteers assigned on the service roles are deployed on the ground to interact with the children and youths in our services.

Childcare Services

Children learn best in an environment where they know they are safe and accepted. As a teaching assistant, you will play a crucial role in creating the ideal environment for learning to take root in the classroom.

Commitment –

Once a week on weekdays.

At least 2 hours between 7am – 7pm

Location – Bukit Panjang, Junction 10 or Woodlands

Criteria – Have relevant experience working closely with young children between the ages of 18 months to 6 years old.

Student Care Services

We provide the children in our Student Care centres with assistance and guidance in their academic development. As an academic mentor, you will be placed with students of a certain primary school level to guide and assist them as they work on their homework and/or assessment books.

Commitment – 

Once a week on weekdays

At least 2 hours between 2.30pm – 6pm

Location – Bukit Panjang, Teck Whye or Woodlands

Criteria – Have relevant experience working closely with children between the ages of 7 to 12 years old.

We care about the character development of our children in Student Care. Hence, we take time out every term for Lessons of Love (LOL). Through LOL, we introduce the children to good character values.

As a LOL mentor, you will facilitate small group discussions & assist teachers in executing simple activities. A short 30 min training will be conducted on the day itself to prepare you for the activities ahead.

Commitment – 

6 weeks

1 to 2 times a week (Wed/Fri)

3pm – 5.30pm

Location – Bukit Panjang, Teck Whye or Woodlands

Critieria – Have a heart to mentor the next generation and having relevant experience working with children between the ages of 7 to 12 years old.

Casework & Counselling Services

Education is the key to improving children’s future prospects and every child should have access to academic support to help them excel.

As an extension of Project Love, Hope Tuition Programme provides free tuition to kids from low-income families. Tutors will assist children in grasping concepts and working through problems, as well as provide feedback to help the child improve.

Commitment – 

Once or twice weekly, subject to schedule of beneficiary and tutor

1-2h per session

Location – Zoom or New Life’s premises

Criteria – Have relevant experience teaching tuition in any subject for primary or secondary school students.

Child Programmes

The Steady Readers Programme is an intervention programme for K2 – P4 children who are reading below their academic level. Besides literacy and comprehension skills, the Steady Readers Programme also aims to build children’s confidence in reading, speaking and presenting.

As a volunteer mentor, you will be interacting and building relationships with a group of 2-4 children aged between 6-10 years old. This includes teaching phonics, engaging in rapport-building conversations and playing games. Excursions and learning journeys are also organised to enrich their experiences.

Commitment –

Criteria – At least 18 years with a passion for working with children. Some experience with children would be good.

P.A.N.D.A Champs is an acronym for Perseverance, Acts of Love, eNcouragement, Discipline and Accepting Differences. It is a character programme specially designed for P1 – P4 children from New Life Children & Student Care to help them develop desirable traits, foster good relationships, set goals and make good decisions.

As a volunteer mentor, you will be mentoring a group of 3-4 children aged between 7-10 years old. You will facilitate their learning and growth experientially through relationship-building activities and guiding them in reflective discussions.

Commitment – 

7 Jun – 24 Jun 2021

Criteria – At least 18 years with a passion for working with children. Some experience with children would be good.

The Kids Champ Club Programme caters to P1- P4 children. Through fun and experiential activities, it aims to impart good character values in children and provide opportunities for them to put into practice what they have learnt during the sessions.

As a volunteer mentor, you will be mentoring a group of 3-4 children from at-risk backgrounds. You will help to facilitate learning and growth experientially through relationship-building activities and guiding them in reflective discussions.

Commitment – 

29 Jan – 11 Jun 2022

2 Saturdays per month, 2.30pm – 5.30pm

Location – Fajar Youth Hub, Woods Square or Online

Criteria – At least 18 years with a passion for working with children. Some experience with children would be good.

Steady Readers Enrichment Workshop is a March Holidays camp aimed at providing a positive learning environment for the SR children to practice using the English language. As a facilitator, you will bring joy, laughter and growth to the children through play and fun-filled activities!

Commitment – 15 March 2022 (Full Day)

Location – TBC (pending SMM updates)

Criteria – At least 18 years with a passion for working with children. Some experience with children would be good.

Youth Services

The foundation of youth mentorship is relationship. Befrienders will build friendships with youth from various backgrounds through engaging activities, games and personal conversations.

Commitment – 

1 to 2 times a week on weekdays

At least 2 hours between 1.30pm – 6pm

Location – Bukit Panjang or Woodlands

Criteria – Have a heart to mentor the next generation and having experience working with youths between the ages of 11 to 21 years old.

While the entry point to building a mentoring relationship is by being a friend, we have found that the entry point to friendship usually boils down to shared experiences.

As an Instructor, you will have the undivided attention of the youths. Through the time interacting with the youths, you will be breaking the ice and building rapport. It could be a hobby that you have picked up and enjoy doing, or a life or occupational skill that you can teach.

Commitment –

1 to 2 times a week on weekdays

At least 2 hours between 1.30pm – 6pm

Location – Bukit Panjang or Woodlands

Criteria – Have a heart to mentor the next generation and having experience working with youths between the ages of 11 to 21 years old.

Silvercare Services

Befrienders will connect with, care for and affirm seniors through centre activities and other interactions. They will also assist activity leaders with classroom logistical setup.

Commitment – 

At least once weekly on weekdays

Between 9am – 10:30am or 10:30am – 12nn

Location – Bukit Panjang

Criteria – Enjoys working with seniors and able to speak their languages (i.e. mother tongue, dialects). Willing to support activity leaders in facilitating classes and receptive to learning. No prior knowledge of activity required. Must be fully vaccinated (to protect seniors). All ages are welcome.

Share your passion for your hobby and empower seniors to learn new skills! Leaders will plan, coordinate and facilitate activity sessions (e.g. dance, music, cooking, crafts, exercise, etc.) for seniors.

Commitment –

Weekly on weekdays for 3 months

Between 9am – 10:30am or 10:30am – 12nn

Location – Bukit Panjang

Criteria – Passionate about a hobby or skill and enjoys empowering seniors to learn something new. Able to speak their languages (i.e. mother tongue, dialects). Must be fully vaccinated (to protect seniors). All ages are welcome.

Instructors will educate seniors on specific areas of knowledge (e.g. health, financial planning, wills, legal power of attorney, how to use tech/apps, etc.) through talks and workshops. Any area of expertise that might be relevant to seniors is welcome.

Commitment –

Ad hoc on project basis. Can be one-time trainings

Sessions must be between 9am – 12nn

Location – Bukit Panjang

Criteria – Have relevant qualifications or experience in the session topic. Enjoys working with seniors and able to speak their languages (i.e. mother tongue, dialects). Must be fully vaccinated (to protect seniors) and physically fit & healthy. All ages are welcome.

Support Roles

Volunteers in support roles make valuable contributions to the back-end functioning so that our programmes and services can run smoothly.

Passionate about the planning and execution of events? Want to serve but have limited bandwidth or time? We need your help. There are a variety of roles as an event helper. These range from being involved in event planning from start to end or as an ad-hoc volunteer. We will match your time and talent to find the best fit for you.

Commitment – Adhoc

Criteria – Have the heart of a servant

Copy editors check and proofread the final draft to ensure they’re free of errors such as grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors. They also make sure the writing is easy to read and fits our editorial style and rewrite text to improve clarity and readability

Commitment – Adhoc

Criteria – Has love of language, strong grammar and writing skills, attention to detail and previous experience in writing. Portfolio of previous writing works is required.

Support executive staff in developing ideas, scripts, and storyboards, filming and producing for several videos such as highlight videos, interview videos or corporate videos, or editing raw camera footage, audio, sound effects, graphics and special effects into high-quality content for marketing purposes.

Commitment – Adhoc basis

Criteria – Experience in creating professional quality videos, can do video editing and add effects. Portfolio of previous videography works is required.

The graphic design volunteer will support the corporate communication team in designing appealing visuals for publicity; branding, publications, events and digital platforms – social media & website. This may include Logos, EDMs, posters, flyers, and other marketing materials as needed.

Commitment – At least 1-2 projects per year

Criteria – Is creative and intuitive, an eye for design, have the ability and capacity to work independently and proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign). A designer who is quality-oriented. A showcase of your portfolio is required. Send us your best works!

A photo paints a thousand words. We’re on the lookout for a photographer who has a keen eye, a creative mind and intuitive in capturing moments (photojournalism) – mainly for our events or portraiture & facilities shots etc. Let your photos do the talking, send us some of your best shots!

Commitment – At least one event per year

Criteria – Have your own gear. A keen eye with composition and able to visualise how your photo will be used across different mediums. A photographer who is well-versed in post-production and quality-oriented. A showcase of your portfolio is required.
